Practically Joking

I heard this story today (at church no less) and thought of a couple friends.

One day there was an actor who was asked by a friend to be in his commercial.  He happened to be the director of this commercial, but he also happened to be notorious for playing jokes on people.

During the filming he stopped over and over to critique the actor.  Again and again he stopped it and yelled at the actor, berating him for how bad he was.  Finally the director and the crew just walked off the set, leaving the actor crying like a little boy.

All for a joke.

Months later this same director was attending a baseball game at Yankee Stadium.  Towards the end of the 7th inning stretch fans around him began to try to get his attention to the scoreboard.  There on the Jumbotron he saw that the cameras were on him and his lady-friend.  Above them were written in huge letters: “Julie, Will You Marry Me?”  His girlfriend was shocked, as they hadn’t dated that long, but she was so happy, she had to say, “Yes!”

And then he had to tell her that it wasn’t him, that he wasn’t asking her to marry him after all.  Perhaps he should have waited, because he was still on the camera when she slapped him in the face.

Ah, payback.

Revenge IS sweet! (So to which friends do you Owe One?)
(Or, heaven forbid, do they OWE YOU??)

Can you imagine the double-whammy of thinking your man is proposing to you AT A BASEBALL GAME (which is never, ever, ever the way to go), but feeling compelled to say yes, because in the moment you’re excited and actually DO want to marry him (despite this incredible blunder he’s made), and THEN him telling you “oh, um…yeah…so…i’m actually NOT proposing to you”???

I. Would. Die.

Dad gumm. Son, why do you persist in being so vague? Granted, it’s the worldwide web, but you always leave too much mystery.

(Okay, not always. You’re quite forthcoming with things like what your buddy ate for breakfast and assorted painful trivia–Kaye would call you Paw Paw) but when it comes to the interesting or personal stuff, you leave us hanging. Shame, shame.

Why did you think of two friends? Who? And who was the actor/director (if you know)?

Sorry about the vaguery.
I specifically thought about Dovie K., Heather M., and Paige J., if you must know, and I thought about them because they, more so than any others, are violently opposed to “Scoreboard Proposals” as being both inappropriate and unromantic. Any other thoughts about that I will leave for them to expound upon.
I have no idea who might be the actor and director.
And I’d be careful asking about details, as I could expound on my childhood one day and incriminate certain siblings who shall not remain nameless…

or I could keep things a little private.

By the way, happy birthday to the emoticon smiley :-)
he’s 25 as of 9/19.
