Have yourself an H-town Christmas

Back in Houston for the weekend, I have enjoyed yet another few rainy days. I guess it didn’t rain enough on me in Washington (or every other place I’ve been lately), and from what my mom tells me, we always need just a little more here at home. I disagree, but then that’s because I kind of like it a little drier than it is just now.

Christmas is here, and I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. Maybe Christmas is not your thing- I can accept that, and to you a wish you an even better Christmas, because chances are you don’t have much else to than be happy that you don’t have to go to work today (or school for the next week or so, too). If being wished a nice day is not considered offensive, then I can hardly believe that my most heart-felt wishes for someone to have a better day on Christmas could possibly offend any person who understood that.

And yet there are those who like to keep chips on their shoulders (but no decent salsa, I’m afraid- just dry and stale) and are happy to spout off about infringement on their personal sensibilities or some such nonsense as that, decrying the whole Holiday (read- holy day) as akin to forcing Christianity down their throats (perhaps the latest torture technique of the CIA- “Bible-boarding”: forcing someone to swallow the Bible, one page at a time…). Where are those people at Halloween? All Saints Day? New Year’s Day? Thanksgiving? All of these holidays are related to the Christian calendar, some more than others, but even the way we mark the year was solidified by the Catholic Church.

But I digress. This is Christmas. And I wish you a very Merry Day, health and peace be upon you and yours, and may all your desires be either granted or reshaped to fit God’s plan for you as you come to know Him. And if you’re offended, don’t tell me or I’ll have to pray for you more 😉
